In lectures as well in textbooks, the young student of mathematics generally encounters an array of facts and techniques that are not easily mastered. His task,as I see it,is to emphasize the important and ignore the unimportant parts of what is offered, thus reducing the complications to an understandable form that he can assimilate. At a later stage of his study of mathematics, the student will find it easier to grasp the particulars when their significance for the entire structure can be recognized. |
